SMAAAK News for November 2017

Round up….

September and October have been busy months for SMAAAK. We are pleased to report that the wonderful Remi Harris Trio gig raised a tad under £1100. And attracting over 1000 visitors, and numerous compliments, h.Art 2017 sales realised £3071 commission donated to the Church Fabric Fund to which we must add Gift Aid. We are awaiting final figures for the superb Arcadia Music Festival, which took place on 7 October.

Our thanks to Rev Julie Read, the Church Wardens and Volunteers who have worked with and, often, around us (!) on all three events and of course, to Markhams Garage and The Corners Inn for their generous sponsorship and raffle prizes. Finally to the wonderful artists who make every event a “must see”.

The next SMAAAK event is the eccentric Churchfitters’ romp of a ‘Christmas Cracker’ on Sunday 10 December at 7.30pm in the Coronation Hall.

What is it about? I hear you ask…. try this!

The Churchfitters is a folk band like no other. A bass guitar made out of a frying pan. Heart-wrenching vocals accompanied by a musical saw. Foot-stompingly fast fiddle mixed with infectious funk-rock bouzouki. And traditional tunes reinvigorated with mesmerising jazz sax.

The three virtuoso musicians from England and France strut their stuff on a stage that bristles with instruments – adding flute, banjo, dulcimer, tin whistle, guitar, ukulele, stand up dustbin bass and a sackful of percussion to their ensemble. And let’s not forget the unique ‘bing-bong’ machine made out of hacksaw blades.

Throw in some exquisite harmonies, a slew of startlingly original songs interlaced with traditional and new festive songs, Christmas carols and terrible jokes, this cracker of a show will see Christmas in with a bang!

Tickets £12, £5 under 16s available in person from Kingsland Post Office,  on-line at www.arts.alive.co.uk or T: 01568 709579

We look forward to seeing you there!
