SMAAAK News September 2017

Round up….

We are delighted to announce that this year’s Kingsland Pop Up Opera raised £1500. Our huge thanks to all who attended, helped behind the scenes and of course our fabulous sponsors Sarah and Tavey at The Angel and Daniel and Alexandra at AllStar Toilets. From this and other events we have been able to donate funds to purchase new bell ropes for the Church and have contributed towards a formal bid to English Heritage to make further much needed improvements to Kingsland Church.

New events

Hot on the heels of The Remi Harris Trio  Saturday, 16 September (tickets £12), SMAAAK’s live events programme continues with the Arcadia Music Festival 5 – 8 October in the Churches of Leintwardine, Kingsland and Downton. This year’s Festival – A Very French Affair has work by Debussy, Ravel, Saint Saëns, and the less well known Albert Roussel. It also features complementary works by Beethoven and Eleanor Alberga, as well as talks on French music by world authority Roger Nichols and harp by virtuoso Hugh Webb. The latter are hosted by Aardvark Books. For the full programme (Saturday 7 October in Kingsland Church) go to www.arcadiamusic.org.uk Tickets from www.ludlowassemblyrooms.co.uk, Kingsland Village Shop  or   T: 01547 540762

Looking ahead, we have booked the remarkable Churchfitters ‘Christmas Cracker’ for Sunday 10 December and Garlic Theatre’s  ‘Jack and the Beans Talk’ Sunday 25 February, both at the Coronation Hall. And hot news… Pop Up Opera return to Kingsland in 2018 for their 5th year! The date is Saturday 14 July 2018.

SMAAAK Annual General Meeting

A chance to meet the Trustees… all are welcome to join us at SMAAAK’s AGM on Saturday 7 October 6.30pm, which immediately precedes the Arcadia Festival in Kingsland Church.

Finally, very sadly SMAAAK Trustees Jim and Dee are due to leave Kingsland shortly and we would love to hear from anyone interested in joining the SMAAAK team or helping out with events.  We would also welcome more local sponsors to continue to run our vibrant events programme.
