Kingsland Flower Show report and List of Cup and Prize Winners

Kingsland Flower Show

After a three-year drought, the Show was held again in the Coronation Hall on Saturday 6th August and was well attended by visitors throughout the afternoon.

Given the hot and dry weather we have experienced recently, the number of entries in the Floral and Vegetable Classes was far above expectation. The exceptional weather did not appear to have affected the French and runner bean Classes, which each had 9 entries. Similar could be said for the white potato, courgette, cucumber and carrot Classes which all attracted reasonable numbers of entries.

There were fine floral displays in all Classes, especially the cluster and specimen Roses and Perennials and Hydrangea Classes. The Frank Morgan President’s Cup attracted five different but extremely high-quality entries.

Needless to say, the cookery sections were as well supported as usual, with 10 entries in the Lemon Drizzle Cake Class and 8 entries in the Cheese & Chive scones Class – we clearly enjoy our cakes.

The Beverages Division had a modest number of entries, although the Fruit Gin Class did attract 12 entries – we definitely continue to be a nation of gin lovers!

The Handicraft Division saw some very interesting and varied entries particularly in the Picture any medium Class, and there were some excellent shots in the Photography Classes.

The children’s section was reasonably well supported, particularly in the Under 5 age group and thanks is due to Kingsland School for their continued support in this section. Almost every school child submitted an entry in the Portrait of the Queen Class.

The cups and prizes were presented this year by Chelsea Dyer and we thank her for giving her time away from the shop.

Thanks to all of you who came and visited the Show. We hope you enjoyed it and partook of “a cuppa” with some home-made cake to refresh you.

It is pleasing to report that this year we had a number of new faces submitting entries and winning prizes, so let us continue that vein next year!

If you did not submit an entry or visit the Show, please think about doing so next year – you may be surprised by the number and quality of entries and what a good overall event it is.

Finally, a huge thank-you to all our Sponsors who contributed towards the significant running costs of the Show, thereby helping towards the considerable success.
