SMAAAK Open Consultation – What Next for our Beautiful Church Building?

WHAT NEXT FOR OUR BEAUTIFUL CHURCH BUILDING?

2016, the 150th anniversary of the last modernisation.

COME ALONG AND HAVE YOUR SAY ON

FRIDAY JULY 8TH  3pm – 8pm

Now that the church is weather-tight, how can we improve the facilities it offers to make it better meet the needs of the whole of our local community?

There will always be a need for repairs and restoration – the stained glass windows for example are amongst the most important in England and are in dire need of conservation. The North roof (nearest the road) will need work before long. This sort of work is vital and will not be neglected.

But projects like that don’t fire the imagination.  The last time any major changes were made was in 1866 when the pews were installed.  2016 is the 150th anniversary of the start of that project and we now live in a very different world.

We must respect this 700 year-old nationally important church and its very special atmosphere.  (Don’t worry: you can be sure that English Heritage will watch us like a hawk!)  Despite that, those of you who know Yarpole church or All Saints in Hereford will know that

great things can be done in great buildings.

We don’t need a café or a village shop (thank you Chelsey!) but we do need modern toilets with disabled access. Do we need better kitchen facilities? Do we need a (warm) meeting room available to all, for village clubs, for choir rehearsals? Underfloor heating that we can afford to turn on?  Facilities for a visiting hairdresser?  Office facilities for hire?

A permanent display for the Church shop?

SEND US YOUR IDEAS OR COME & TELL US ON 8 JULY

We will display all the legal ones!
